WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp today announced that she nominated six outstanding North Dakota students to the nation’s military service academies.
Heitkamp nominated Ian Pytlik of Horace, Ruby Romsland from a North Dakota military family, Spencer Weisgram of West Fargo, Colton Willits of Walhalla, Morgan Adams of Richland County, and London Lambrecht of Bismarck.
“North Dakota knows how to honor service to our nation and raise outstanding leaders for our military,” Heitkamp said. “This impressive group of nominees should be applauded for their desire to serve, and I know they’ll represent North Dakota and our nation well.”
Members of Congress are able to nominate students to attend the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado; the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York; the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York; and the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.

Ian Pytlik – United States Naval Academy
Ian, from Horace, is active in various athletics, clubs and organizations, including student council, Key Club, hockey, football, baseball, and the Boy Scouts. He is currently working on his Eagle Scout project.
Ruby Romsland - United States Military Academy, West Point
Ruby is from a North Dakota military family, and her dad is a Navy Seal. She aspires to attend medical school and continue her family’s tradition of military service.
Spencer Weisgram – United States Military Academy, West Point
Spencer, from West Fargo, currently attends Culver Academies in Indiana. Spencer is on Honor Council, plays in the Culver hockey program, and is a member of the Culver Cadet Club and drill team.
Colton Willits – United States Air Force Academy
Colton, from Walhalla, attends North Border Walhalla High School. He serves as Secretary of State and is on the Color Guard for North Dakota Boys State, participated in the North Dakota Leadership Seminar, in on the North Dakota Student Cabinet, National Honor Society, is a church school leader, and plays basketball, track, and served as captain of the varsity football team.
Morgan Adams – United States Air Force Academy
Morgan, from Richland County, is enlisted in the North Dakota Air National Guard. She graduated from Richland 44 High School where she was involved with varsity softball, rifle team, and FFA. Morgan has begun taking college courses with Community College of the Air Force.
London Lambrecht – United States Merchant Marine Academy
London, from Bismarck, is a senior at Shiloh Christian School. She is a member of Student Council, runs varsity track, cross country, and plays basketball.
