Heitkamp Announces Federal Funding to Improve Economic Independence for Fargo Public Housing Residents
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senator Heidi Heitkamp announced $246,000 in federal funding to the Fargo Housing and Redevelopment Authority to help those in public housing increase their economic independence.
“Public housing assists individuals, families, the elderly, and the disabled by providing a safe environment for them to call home,” said Heitkamp. “By finding ways to bolster the economic opportunity for these folks, it helps them become self-sufficient and increase their confidence so they can support themselves and their families. The federal funding announced today will help the Fargo Housing and Redevelopment Authority hire a Service Coordinator that will help those in public housing find economic stability to live independent lives.”
These funds are made available through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Resident Opportunities and Self Sufficiency (ROSS) Grant Program. These federal funds are used to hire a Service Coordinator who assists individuals and families living in public housing increase their independence and find ways to reduce or eliminate their need for safety net programs. For the elderly and those with disabilities the Service Coordinator’s goal is to improve living conditions.
